The cleansing effect of banking crises

چکیده
We assess the cleansing effects of 2008–2009 financial crisis. U.S. regions with higher levels supervisory forbearance on distressed banks see less restructuring in real sector: fewer establishments, firms, and jobs are lost when more remain business. In these regions, banking sector has been healthy for several years after Regions experience productivity growth crisis firm entries, job creation, employment, wages, patents, output growth. Forbearance is greater state-chartered weaker competition independent banks.
